1. What causes bad breath? Bad breath, clinically known as halitosis is generally caused by 2 different factors: One is caused by food odours, such as onions, garlic, etc. which contain various sulfur compounds. These sulfur compounds are what gives these foods a bad reputation. The other type of bad breath is caused by ANAEROBIC SULFUR PRODUCING BACTERIA. These bacteria live beneath the surface of your tongue and often in little cracks in your throat and tonsils. They react rapidly to changes in their environment by producing smelly Volatile Sulfur Compounds, such as Hydrogen Sulfide ( the rotten egg smell ) and Methyl Mercaptan ( the smell of old socks ). The conditions that trigger this kind of reaction are: dry mouth, thick saliva, excess mucus, post nasal drip, a diet high in protein, smoking, alcohol. ORDOX products with special Hexydine clinical formula fight these bacteria and therefore ensure a fresh breath throughout the day! 2. Why doesn’t everyone have bad breath? Some people have substantially more of these bad breath causing bacteria than others; no one knows why. But we do know that over 30% of people have some degree of halitosis and suffer the embarrassment of bad breath. A lot of people report that bad breath or bad taste in their mouth reappears just 20 or 30 minutes after they have brushed their teeth with the regular toothpaste one can buy in the supermarket. This is because the normal toothpaste does not eliminate the cause of bad breath. 3. How can I restore lasting freshness in my mouth? Bad breath is caused by anaerobic sulfur producing bacteria and unfortunately you cannot remove them by simply scraping your tongue. It is because these bacteria reside deep below the surface of the tongue and a simple tongue scraping will just take some of the smelly sulfur compounds out but will not affect the actual bacteria. This is where ORDOX does it’s job. It’s Chlorhexidine clinical formula actually fights the anaerobic bacteria. As a result the smelly sulfur compunds are not produced anymore and the freshness that lasts is restored immediately. ![]() 4. Why are current bad breath solutions ineffective? Conventional mouthwashes, breath mints, chewing gums and other similar “bad breath solutions” just temporarily mask the bad breath, but does not treat the real cause of bad breath. A lot of the mouthwashes available in supermarket stores contain alcohol which only makes your mouth drier and that triggers the anaerobic bacteria to produce even more volatile sulfur compounds. 5. I heard the bad breath comes from stomach. Is that true? Bad breath rarely originates in the stomach, throat, nose or sinuses as most people believe. Air released from the nose of a person with bad breath does not have any offensive odor. Air from the mouth does. In 95% of cases bad breath originates from the mouth. 6. Bad breath and social engagement Public opinion surveys confirm that people have negative images of people with bad breath. BAD BREATH IS A SERIOUS SOCIAL HANDICAP! It impairs social, sexual and occupational interactions. 7. Poor oral hygiene If your teeth and gums are in poor health they may be one of the causes of bad breath. Regular, competent dental care is important in controlling bad breath. Nevertheless it’s a fact that a lot of the people with bad breath have an excellent oral hygiene – they brush or floss their teeth more than other people in trying to rid themselves of this embarrassing problem. But even extensive oral care cannot change one physical characteristic that turned out to be one of the most common signs of bad breath: the white coating on the tongue – a visual sign of volatile sulfur compounds which can be safely and simply removed by regular use of ORDOX products.
